Enclosure Requirements
Recommended Size:
For adult Fiji iguanas, a minimum enclosure size of 4'x2'x4' is recommended. Enclosures like the Atasuki line or similar vertical arboreal setups work well.
Enrichment & Furnishing:
These iguanas are highly arboreal and thrive in environments with:
Branches and trees for climbing
Plenty of live plants for cover and hydration
Naturalistic setups that allow hiding and exploring
Humidity & Misting:
Fiji iguanas drink from droplets on leaves and surfaces, so misting at least 3 times daily is essential. Simulating rain encourages natural drinking behavior.
Lighting & Heating
A comprehensive lighting system should include four types of bulbs:
UVB Lighting
Visible Light
Bright LEDs like Jungle Dawn by Arcadia replicate natural sunlight.
Fiji iguanas are drawn to vivid, natural-looking environments.
Basking Bulbs
Zoo Med 50W Splash-Proof bulbs are great for heat.
Hang them inside the enclosure, allowing the iguana to bask within 10 inches to achieve a basking temp around 100°F (38°C).
Deep Heat Projectors (Infrared-C)
Optional, but beneficial in larger setups.
Place above the cage to prevent burns.
A 60W projector is effective if the iguana can approach within 15 inches of the heat source.
Outdoor Time:
If daytime temps reach 20°C (68°F) or higher, supervised outdoor time is very beneficial for overall health and well-being.
Diet & Nutrition
Primary Diet:
Fiji iguanas are primarily herbivorous. Offer a varied diet of:
Leafy greens: dandelion, mustard greens, collard greens, spring mix
If feeding romaine, use only the dark green portions
Shredded carrots, sweet potato (as appetizing toppings)
Fruits:
Should make up no more than 10% of the diet. Suitable options include:
Raspberries, blueberries, banana, figs, no grapes orange - apples - citrus etc.
Flowers:
Favorites include:
Tip: A clean, pesticide-free hibiscus plant in the enclosure provides food, enrichment, and visual interest.
Fiji iguanas may also nibble on pothos and similar foliage.
Commercial Diets:
Safe to feed as up to 10% of the overall diet:
Rep-Cal Iguana Food
Mazuri Tortoise Diet
Repashy Grassland Grazer
